Pearl Lee Blount was the 5th child of the late Eugene and Edna Lee. She was born May 8, 1945 in Anson County, North Carolina.
She confessed Christ as her personal savior at an early age and joined West Rocky Ford Missionary Baptist Church in Wadesboro, NC. She later joined First Baptist Church in Ansonville to be with her husband, who was the pastor. She received her formal education in the public schools of Anson County and graduated from JR Faison School in 1963. Pearl furthered her education by graduating from Durham Business College.
Pearl was employed as a teacher assistant in her early adult years. She later began her position as Administrative Assistant at North Carolina Cooperative Extension- Anson County, where she devotedly served in her capacity for 38 years.
After her retirement, she remained involved in the roles of 4-H Volunteer Leader (41 years), served as a district and state President of the NC 4-H Volunteer Leaders Association and was a Master ACE Volunteer Leader. Pearl was inducted in the 4-H Hall of Fame, one of the highest honors as a 4-H Volunteer Leader. She was also an Extension ECA member and served as an Anson County Advisory Council Member. Her other civic duties where she served on the Council on Aging Board and Domestic Violence Coalition Board. Pearl has been a mother to many in her community and was heavily involved in community groups and her church. She was an amazing woman and tackled all things with grace. She believed in doing good by all and when she was tasked with something, she did it in an exemplary way.
She married Reverend Roy E. Blount in 1967 and stood by his side for 47 years until his passing in 2015. She maintained the duties as wife, mother and a pastor’s wife with effortless grace.
Pearl carried roles in her church and association also. She was the 2nd and 1st Vice President and President of the Yadkin Philadelphia Woman’s Home and Foreign Missionary Auxiliary. She was the Treasurer and Corresponding Secretary for the Woman’s Home and Foreign Missionary Auxiliary, Ministers, Deacons and Laymen Union and BTU Union and for the entire Yadkin Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Association. Pearl was vital in her church’s missionary board. She served as the Youth Director for her church and association. She was recognized for over 40 plus years of service to the association in 2022.
Those left to carry her legacy on are her daughters, Natasha (Gilbert Hatcher) Duncan of the home, Roshunda (William) Terry of Wadesboro and Jessica (Jair) Ramirez of Gastonia, NC. Her Goddaughter, Mrs. Phyllis (Rev. Donell) Taylor of Oakboro, NC. Her grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Justin (Da’Vayziah Flemming) Duncan of Charlotte and Kendall Duncan of the home. The apple of her eye that she affectionately nicknamed Peanut, great grandson, Halo Duncan. Her spiritual son, Bishop Tavaris(Whitnei) Johnson of Sanford, NC. She also leaves her siblings, Ann (Major) Carter of Amherst, VA, and Rev. Henry (Linda) Lee of Wadesboro. Special nephew, Elder Alfred E.(Regina) Blount, of Asheville, NC. A favorite close friend that was her road partner, Ms. Marian Young of Polkton, NC. She also leaves a magnitude of other “children” that affectionately called her, Ma Pearl, as well as a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Ida Waddell, Queen Lee-Hurysz, Edna Johnson. Her brothers Wille Lee and Robert Lee.
The services to celebrate the remarkable life and enduring legacy of Mrs. Blount will be on Sunday, March 2, 2025, 3:00PM, Smith’s Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Interment will follow at Westview Memorial Park, Polkton, North Carolina.
